Giorgos J. Xydopoulos is Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Philology and Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Patras. His current research and teaching interests focus on lexicology (specialised and marginal vocabularies, borrowing, Anglicisation), lexical semantics, lexicography (printed and electronic specialised dictionaries/terminology and dialect databases), and educational linguistics (the teaching of language and linguistics). He has participated in and led numerous research projects as a member or head of scientific teams, has served on scientific committees for international journals, publishers, and national and international conferences, and has been invited to give lectures at universities and other institutions in Greece and abroad. He has supervised dozens of doctoral, postgraduate, and undergraduate theses. He has authored and edited books on general linguistics, printed and electronic dictionaries, he has published articles in Greek and international journals and edited volumes, and he has presented his work at national and international linguistics conferences. He has also contributed – through popularised articles, talks, and interviews – to the dissemination of linguistic science to the wider public and to the debunking of linguistic myths and pseudolinguistic beliefs.
